UK’s Keir Starmer: Putin Must Pay for Avoiding Ukraine Peace Talks as Sanctions Loom

In a strong warning to Moscow, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer declared that Russian President Vladimir Putin must “pay the price” for avoiding peace talks and prolonging the Ukraine war, emphasizing the urgent need for a full, unconditional ceasefire to end Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Speaking ahead of the European Political Community summit in Albania, Starmer stated that if Russia refuses to engage in negotiations, the international community, led by the UK, will intensify sanctions targeting Russian energy exports to pressure the Kremlin into stopping its aggression. The UK’s firm stance aligns with growing calls among Western allies to hold Russia accountable for its actions in Ukraine, with tougher economic sanctions being discussed to force a diplomatic resolution. Putin’s absence from recent US-arranged peace talks in Istanbul has fueled frustration in Europe, prompting leaders to consider stronger measures to restore Ukraine’s sovereignty and bring peace to the region. This escalation reflects a coordinated global effort to address the Russia-Ukraine conflict, showcasing the UK’s leadership in demanding justice and peace
